Working with Columns

Columns are vertical groups of cells. The right blue area at the top of each column is called a column heading. Column headings are labeled alphabetically. The worksheet only shows a few columns, but Microsoft Excel has a total of 16 384 columns.


  • Click column heading A.
  • Click column heading B.
  • Click column heading E.
What happens when you click on a column heading?
  • Now, click column heading A, hold down the SHIFT key and then click column heading D.
What happens when you click on the column headings while holding down the SHIFT key?
  • Now, click column heading A, hold down the CTRL (Control) key, and then click column C and column E headings.
